The Stilled Ancient Ruins is the penultimate area in The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom.

Encountered as part of the “The Prime Energy and Null” main quest, this has you explore a series of short — but challenging — biomes in order to access a crystal at the end.

If you’re worried if completing this traps you in a point-of-no-return, don’t worry — once you have completed this section, you’ll be given an explicit warning before you proceed to the finale, and even after that, you can continue exploring once done.

Though there is a degree of freedom in how you explore this Stilled area, the general gist is to go north. Here’s the route we took, and how we overcome the obstacles along the way.

Go east, over the floating sideways trees, then north to an island where you can go a number of directions.

Go west, over the fallen spire, then drop down the platforms.

You’ll come to a grass-filled area. Clear out the wolfos, then go north.

Go north to a series of desert islands, including one with a quick sand pit in the middle. Continue north until you come to a wall with a sideways cactus. Use it as a stepping stone with echoes of your choice (such as beds) and go west, up the cliff top, then east.

Note if you get attacked here from above (from the likes of flying keese and moa) summoning crows to keep them at bay is recommended.

You’ll soon come to another island with quick sand. Climb the higher rocks with echoes — again, beds are simple and effective stepping stones — then go east.

Just to the north, where the area turns frosty, activate the warp point.

If useful, here’s where the warp point is on the map:

Jump into the icy water to the west, and go up the ramp. Use a brazier and Bind it, so you can hold it next to the three pillars of ice just across the gap to melt them.

Going north, you’ll come to an area with ice blocks and frost-breathing freezards in-between. Use your most trusted combat echo — we used a sword moblin lv. 3 — and keep your distance while they get in close and attack for you.

Use water blocks to go over the gap, and you’ll arrive at a swamp-like area.

Again, a combat echo will clear the buzz blobs so you don’t have to get electrocuted — as well as the giant goponga flower to the south which blocks your path — and you’ll soon arrive at a lava-filled section.

Summon a crow, grab hold of it, then walk over the geyser to throw you up into the air. Travel from one geyser to the next until you are clear of the lava.

Next, clear the enemies, water block your way up the cliff, then summon birds to get over more geysers.

You’ll land at the second and final warp point.

It’s here on the map, if that’s useful:

Make sure you are well stocked in smoothies, as a boss is just ahead. When ready, go ahead to begin.

How to beat the Stilled Ancient Ruins boss

To defeat Null, perhaps the most simple but effective strategy is summon your most tried and tested combat echo — for us, it was a sword moblin lv. 3 — and switch to Swordfighter Form, lock onto the boss, and spam arrow attacks as they fly around the arena.

Your chosen echo will help clear any summoned enemies, and act as bait throughout the fight. Provided you keep moving, you’ll be safe enough to keep attacking Null and be out of harms way. Keep an eye out for when Null falls to the ground, as you can then rush in and use your sword a few times, before they take off again.

Something to factor into this strategy is it’s a serious drain on your Swordfighter form energy, and so dipping into your smoothie menu to consume drinks which keeps it replenished is key. (And, though some enemies will drop hearts upon defeated, this is also a good way to keep your health topped up, too.)

Once the fight is over, attack the crystal. After the cutscene, you’ll be given a point-of-no-return prompt. Though you’ll be locked into the end of the game once you accept, know you can still continue playing with this save once the finale is done.

When you are ready, it’s time to tackle the final dungeon, and the final part of our Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom walkthrough: Null’s Body.
